Rattlesnake National Recreation Area and Wilderness

Marshall Woods Project Comment Deadline: The USFS's effort to solicit public input on the Marshall Woods Project is wrapping up in a couple of days. Trail running is a major recreational activity there and runners will be affected by the project. So take a few moments to read up on the alternatives and let the USFS know how you would like to see the project proceed. For more information on the proposed alternatives click here. Here's a Missoulian article discussing some of the bigger issues at stake. Submit comments by 4/30 to:

The Rattlesnake Valley: Speaking of the Rattlesnake, local filmmaker Elgin Smith's "The Rattlesnake Valley" is a one minute short film about trail running there and is a finalist in the Audience Awards "Montana Places" category. As you'll see by watching the film, the Rattlesnake is without a doubt a special place for trail runners big and small. If Smith wins, he's committed to donating 30 percent of his prize to One World Running. Enjoy the film, cast your vote by April 29th (you can vote once a day), and encourage local trail running filmmakers to keep up their craft.

May 29 Montana Conservation Corps Pint Night: Drink a beer for a good cause by coming out and supporting Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) at the Northside Kettlehouse this Wednesday. MCC does more to improve trails in Montana than any organization we know of and a few of our MCC friends have been a big help with  our own trail work. So come out and raise a glass for a great cause: 5-8 Wednesday, Northside Kettlehouse, 313 N. 1st St. W in Missoula.

May 16 MTC Trail Work Day: Send an email to admin@montanatrailcrew.com and we'll get you signed up for our first North Hills trail work day of 2015. More details to come, but expect four hours of soaking up the sun on a beautiful trail.

11 Miles to Paradise Bus: For registered participants, Runners Edge is offering an optional bus ride ($12/person) from the store in Missoula to the race start near St. Regis. May 1 is the last day to sign up for the bus:
You can update your registration to add the Missoula shuttle by:
1) Going to your run sign up account at runsignup.com
2) Clicking on "My registered races" and navigating to 11 Miles to paradise.
3) Clicking on "view/edit registration".
3) Clicking on the "add-ons" tab.
4) From there you can select the shuttle from Missoula.

New Events? Speaking of Runners Edge, they offered a subtle announcement about new trail running events via their instagram account. We're looking forward to more details emerging soon.

Mountain Monday: This could be your last chance to encounter snow on MTC's Mountain Monday group run. Jimmy can't make it, but Jeff Rome will be leading the charge. As usual, the group meets at the Caras Park Trout at noon today for a Sentinel ascent.

Got news? Let us know about it and we'll get it posted.
